Where is my browser storing my zip code and how can I make it stop?
Are you getting targeted ads for businesses in your zip code? I've been wondering if they read IP numbers or something, but then I checked mine, and it doesn't actually report my town, but a town nearby -- which is to say, I'm curious about the answer to this, as well.
I think they are probably getting it from the IP address. Tracking it back to the service provider.
I must vent, and some people on this thread will appreciate this vent.
I am linking to an application that I'm not in control of. The page title comes up as some funky thing. I asked my contact (not a programmer) to change it. Here are the edited e-mail exchanges:
Me: Could you please change the page title in the html to "Analysis"?
Idiot: Can you be more specific? We can't change the application URL at this time as it will affect many things. Is this what you were referring to or is this someplace else?
Me: (gives code) One line of HTML
Idiot: You want this Analyzer on one line, underlined? Correct?
Me: No. Just change one line of code in the header
Idiot on the phone: I still don't understand the wording change you want.
Me: I want a change in the code.
Idiot: I've got the page open. Where do you want the change?
Me: Look at the source code.
Idiot: Oh. I don't do that.
Me: Just forward my e-mail to your guys. They'll know what to do.
If you're going to talk to clients and you represent a web applications development company, shouldn't you know something? Or am I being too optimistic?
Edited because I was too irritated to format
Or am I being too optimistic?
My recent experience with web developers jives with yours, so probably.
I am SO not a web developer, and I could have fixed that for you, Ginger. Because I had one 8-hour XHTML class AND I HAVE A BRANE.
Gah, Ginger! Helloes, peoples!
I think they are probably getting it from the IP address.
Blargh. Nothing I can do about it, then.
Okay. What is up with this?
I have downloaded Quicktime 7 at least 7 times. It works perfectly right after downloading but...if I should have the audacity to click on a movie preview that is intended to be viewed as hd, OR if I shut down and restart for any reason at all...Quicktime stops working. (and I get an error message that says I don't have it.)
It's a complete and total mystery to me.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I am SO not a web developer, and I could have fixed that for you, Ginger. Because I had one 8-hour XHTML class AND I HAVE A BRANE.
I have had no XHTML or HTML classes and only 1/2 a brane, and I could have fixed this with access or known to pass it on to the right person if I didn't have access. I know people who work with tech people who don't, but they probably would have passed this on to me (or someone like me) at the first exchange. You have my sincere sympathies, Ginger.
How do I save a screenshot of a webpage? Do I just do click on "file" and then "save as"?
To take a screenshot, press Alt and the PrintScreen key. That will copy the active window. You can then paste it into Word or Paint and save it that way. File-->Save won't let you take a screenshot, but you could also try saving it as a complete webpage or web archive. That's hit or miss, depending on what the page contains.
