yeah, I get files with no extensions from Mac users (usually). If Tommy can't figure it out, send it my way. Although I wonder if it is a word perfect file...

'twas a Word doc. Oddly, my MacBook said it was an Excel file (I don't have Office for Mac so my Mac couldn't do anything with it anyway). My XP VM did not recognize it, but when I gave it a .doc extension, it opened in Word.

Yep, I got it open in Word by adding the .doc extension. You think it could've figured that out!

Does anyone know of a way to disable buttons on a desktop keyboard, in this case, a Dell wireless keyboard? It has these internet buttons on the top that get inadvertently pressed all the time (specifically the back button, which causes me to lose pages to my endless consternation). Seems unlikely but I thought I'd give it a try.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
Those keys should be programmable, bon. At least they were in my Compaq keyboard--look in your control panel, perhaps, for a place to fiddle with them. Maybe also your system tray, if searching through your installed programs nets you nothing.

Model RT7D40. Control Panel -> Keyboard is pretty basic; that's all I see for accessing the keyboard through the desktop. The Device manager kicked me to the same thing. ISTR being able to change the keys on other desktops, which is why I ask, but I wouldn't be surprised if I can't do it.

What kind of things are breaking SA? Kubuntu / Ubuntu has been very stable for me, but then I have a very generic desktop PC so everything is pretty stable.
