I need to find some transparent jpeg (?) icons that are free, are from the same icon set, and represent news segments (entertainment, world news, U.S. news, travel, food, technology, etc.). Anyone know of such a beast?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
You're not going to get transparent and JPG--you'll need GIF for that, and it's a dicey proposition since the sides need to be either horizontal or vertical with no anti-aliasing for you to achieve true transparency.
Or PNG--that'll get you true transparency. Do most browsers support it now?
But I have no idea where to find them. Just wanted to tweak your search.

IE was the last holdout on transparent PNG's -- but of course, that's a pretty big holdout, as far as market share goes. As of IE7, it's now supported, but I don't have numbers handy for how many IE users have made the switch.

Hey. New board.
Why oh why did IE reject PNG for so goldarn long? I've been using it for, seriously, years. I have a book that was written 10 years ago saying that it was the future.
Although, apparently SMF (the web forum I use over on my other community) converts all avatars to PNG when it resizes them, and i haven't gotten any complaints that avatars are available. So are we sure about that IE thing? Maybe IE pre 7 just sucked at the transparency bit?
