Ah, gotcha. Cablevision is sufficiently obsessed with pointless service calls that I think they'll probably send a service guy out to collect the modem. But you never know!

Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
It seems all my iPod/iPhone chargers (non-OEM) don't work with the new iPhone-4. I'm guessing they use the Firewire terminals in the 30-pin connector, which Apples is phasing out. The most annoying is the DLO cradle/charger for the phone. What do folks use in the car? About the only thing I found in a cursory search is the Tom Tom unit, which adds additional GPS horsepower. At $80, it seems a bit pricey.
So what's the deal with pay-as-you go cell plans, like Virgin Mobile? Do you lose your pre-existing cell number if you switch to that? Because that's kind of a deal-killer.
No, you can port your number like any phone. (Virgin anyway -not sure about the ones you buy preloaded.)
I have pay-as-you-go T mobile and I love it. I think it works out to about $20 a month and I use the phone for texts and also emailing very crappy looking pictures to myself.
Omnis, I'm pretty sure that you can get a car charger for like $30 at target!
Is it just a cable? Or one that also holds the phone in place?
Do you have a cover on your phone? If you take it off, it should still work with most chargers. The one I used with the 3G works fine with the 4 once the cover is off.
It's not a cover issue. It's my chargers/docks are older and charge via FireWire. New iPhone only charges via USB.
omnis,
do you need to charge ONLY or do you need to broadcast audio through the car?
If you need to charge ONLY, I bought a cigarette lighter/USB charger from Target for $13 and I attach a usb cord to the charger and charge my phone just fine.
