Anya, the Shopkeepers of America called. They wanted me to tell you that 'please go' just got replaced with 'have a nice day.'

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Thanks, le nubian!

I'm starting to fall for hard drives. All this tech... it's got a thing, you know?

ION, once again I approach teh hivemind: what's your dream computer/hardware for office needs? Netbooks opinions are also welcomed.

Interested also on netbook question. Since mine died, living without, but next time I travel would really like one.

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

The info I got was to get one with I7 and 6GB of memory.

Nothing other than that.

Sound like a laptop. Do they really make netbooks with those specs?

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

I expect to know that in about an hour.

(Current shopping: laptop, computer, netbook, NAS infrastructure, document camera w/projector, OCR, scanner with feeder - and that's just the hardware).

Google fails me.

I'm trying to find a document camera with projector (included).

It brings me only document cameras or unavailable products.

Help?

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

Not to hijack the thread from Shir, since she is in need. But I heard this on NPR today and is rather cool. Strokes the geek in two ways, history and science!

Old ship logs help predict weather patterns

Climate scientists want to use weather reports made by British sailors in World War I but they are hidden in handwritten ship logs, and impossible for computer scanners to read. So the scientists have enlisted online volunteers to grab that weather data for computer analysis. Along the way, transcribers are reading about sea battles and daily life nearly a century ago on a British war ship. The World’s Clark Boyd has more. (Audio available after 5PM Eastern)

And here is the website they are talking about: [link]

How cool is that? You get to read through ships logs! Seems they would take weather readings every 4 hours, no matter what was going on. "enemy off port bow, temp is..."

t geek

(sorry, that tag doesn't close easy, especially when you are talking history and something that could help with climate prediction!)
