Well, I can boot the laptop from my USB hard drive, but not from my Time Machine drive. And while holding down the option key presented me with the choice of the laptop hard drive or the external drive, after booting from the external drive, I can't see the internal drive, so I can't mount it or run first aid. Fuck. Steaks.
Huh. It just mounted the bad laptop drive, saying that the disk was irreparable, but that it could be mounted with limited functionality. So, I'm copying my user folder over, in preparation for attempting to reformat and reinstall.
That sounds dirty, the "mounting" :)
The directory is completely frelled (interesting side note - the iPhone spell check thinks "frelled" should be "Creoles"). I wiped the directory and am reinstalling. Sigh. I think I got everything important off the drive.
Crap. The reinstall may have stalled out with "six minutes remaining." This could be bad. The drive may be frelled.
It's beach balling me. Still "six minutes remaining."
Cry.
I think I might have a few spare 2.5" IDE drives in the shop. What size is the drive Sean?
It's a 160 GB drive, I think.
Yeah, I'm pretty certain I've got a drive of that size in the shop. Mark should know where they are. There might even be a 250 GB in there somewhere.
