Also, when you have a DOS window, type 'ipconfig' without quotes, hit Enter and see what happens.
Anyway, the steps I've posted should narrow the problem down. Hopefully, someone with actual Windows 7 experience can then help out....
tommy, it said "ping request could not find host" when I tried to find yahoo. But now I know how to open a DOS window! Um.

I'll try that. But I also did that "ipconfig" thing and it showed ... a lot of stuff I don't understand and two places that said "media disconnected".
Huh. Was the "media disconnected" related to Ethernet? If so, that's OK.
Amy, is your network secure (using WEP, etc)?
No, I think it was LAC and LAN.
I don't know about WEP, but it is a secure network -- it's our Time Warner internet, which requires a key, etc. All that was input properly, and like I said, it shows that I'm connected? But it also says I'm not, and IE won't open any pages.
