Hey. New board.

Cap'n Crunch to say that today's News Post on Penny Arcade is quite related to this conversation. And rather well constructed. I really like Tycho's writing style much of the time.

(Also, to stick my head in about the key-combinations for copy/paste: It doesn't bother me at all when switching from home to work, but switching from Windows to Mac on the same computer? Horrific.)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

We're a Mac household now (switched over when it was a choice between WinME and OSX), but since I grew up on Windows keyboards the first thing I always do when setting up a new machine is remap the CTRL key so copy-cut-paste work normally.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

I thought it was a Mac feature first, and windows did a bad job at copying the function, and used a different modifier key.

Gris, you just pit your finger on the link and hold, and a thing will come up asking if you want to open in a new tab or copy and paste or...bookmark? I think after opening about 4 tabs the browser was noticeably slower, but it's so much better to have that option! Which I always knew had to be there but hadn't bothered to helpsearch for

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Just installed Firefox 3.6, and am playing with Personas. Such a simple thing, but fun!

Oh dear god. I just realized how much time I've been wasting, always mousing over to the browser's "back" button, when all along I could have been using the three-fingered trackpad gesture to navigate through browser history. This is an example of me being lazy (and not investigating new features of stuff) causing me to not be efficient at stuff....

wait, there's a THREE fingered trackpad gesture? What? I'm so confused....

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You can go as high as 4.

Yeah. I figured I'd train myself on the three-fingered one first. Plus the Command/Tab (and Alt/Tab in windows) method of changing apps is pretty well ingrained in my brain, so I don't know if I'd use the four-fingered swipe to change apps.

eta: Just did some experimenting and I've rethought my feelings on four-fingered swiping. Now it seems it's one of those things were if my fingers are already on the trackpad, it's easier to do the four-fingered swipe than move my fingers to the keyboard for a Command/Tab and then back to the trackpad. But if my fingers are on the keyboard, Command/Tab is faster.

I can't wait to get my Macbook Pro and try the more-than-two finger trackpadding. Just scrolling with two fingers is so damned handy. It's what I keep forgetting when I move to a PC laptop.

My work laptop has a scroll area on the right side of the laptop--is that a model-specific thing, or standard?
