"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Fred Pete,

I think your suggestions are the best places to start. I have a Kindle, and there are quite a few good Kindle specific blogs that also list free Kindle books.

Your friend may want to spend a bit of time with google to look for Nook specific blogs. I am pissed, btw, that ebooks I purchased at B&N can't be read on the Kindle. These bookstores need to get together and let me read the content on multiple devices. It is such an unnecessary pain in the ass.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Thanks, le nubian. I"ll pass word on.

I understand Apple is coming out with an e-reader soon. I'll probably get myself an e-reader as a Christmas present. (My deadline is early next March -- I want to load it up before a major vacation.)

Do you think Apple's announcement will be an ereader? I think it will be a device that does a whole lot of things.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

According to LifeHacker, the iTablet is confirmed. But I just read the headline, so I don't really know the whole thing.

I'm expecting it to basically be the iTouch, if someone grabbed the corner and enlarged it (this is how I think of enlarging and shrinking things. Sometimes I make the hand motions.)

The Apple tablet is confirmed - it's being announced Jan 27th.

What I know for sure is that it's going to run the iPhone OS and the content is going to lean heavily towards "print" products with lots of embedded multimedia. So in theory it will be better for e-magazines than the Kindle or Nook, and will also play movies & TV. (And will run any app that runs now on the iPhone or iPod Touch.)

Rumor is that it will cost close to $1000, so I have a hard time believing it's going to be anything other than a niche luxury device like the Macbook Air.

gack!

I'm leaning toward the Sony but hoped the Apple would signal the "technology has been around long enough for the price to start dropping" phase.

In my dream world, I have an Apple Tablet in the kitchen for reading recipes, etc.
