The Apple tablet is confirmed - it's being announced Jan 27th.
What I know for sure is that it's going to run the iPhone OS and the content is going to lean heavily towards "print" products with lots of embedded multimedia. So in theory it will be better for e-magazines than the Kindle or Nook, and will also play movies & TV. (And will run any app that runs now on the iPhone or iPod Touch.)
Rumor is that it will cost close to $1000, so I have a hard time believing it's going to be anything other than a niche luxury device like the Macbook Air.

gack!
I'm leaning toward the Sony but hoped the Apple would signal the "technology has been around long enough for the price to start dropping" phase.

In my dream world, I have an Apple Tablet in the kitchen for reading recipes, etc.

oh, that would be awesome, mounted on the wall.
Kristen & Vortex, have you seen the QOOQ?
And easier to clean than my macbook!
I had not seen that! It's so cute! And it totally matches our kitchen.
Which is a stupid reason to want one but I suppose no more stupid than, "if I were rich, I would spend a grand on a fancy screen for my recipes."

I can see having a charging dock that sits it up. A wireless keyboard and mouse and you have something you can use for occasional traditional computing and tote it around the house for other stuff with less bulk than a laptop. I dunno.
