And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I have 64 labels. Folders keep them organized.

I have over 100 labels. Ditto.

Is there a "get rid of the friggin conversatons" in Gmail or at least a "decide for yourself which email belongs in conservsation" add on. It seems like google has some sort of ideological marriage with automatic grouping into conversations with no ability to override.

Actually, I find that problem to work both ways, Gar -- if someone in a conversation replies, and their mail program ads a "Re:" to the subject line, Gmail will sometimes split the conversation into two unconnected threads, and it becomes hard to keep track of it.

As much as I loved Gmail at first, I am becoming disillusioned with it. My Gmail inbox is now hopelessly bloated, and I fear that nothing but two solid months of cleaning and categorizing them will ever sort that stuff out.

Is there another email program that would not cause bloatation?

Absolutely. Both putting two emails in the same conversation when they don't belong there, or splitting two emails between conversation when they should be together could be solved by letting users move emails between conversations. Or letting users plain old turn off conversations. I wonder if "conversations" are core to the way advertising is targeted? I can't think of another reason for extreme google stubborness on the subject.

I think the ability to create folders from the beginning might have helped (labels didn't seem to be quite the same thing to me), although in general I'm not very good at being able to create a filin system in my head, so I'll admit the fault lies mostly with me.

I've not used Gmail's interface a lot, but I know that in my email I have about 3 dozen automatic filters set up to move email to the correct folder as it hits my inbox so that I don't usually get the flood of 200 random emails. Rather they are already in the correct folders and flagged, so when I see something turn up in certain client folders I know that it needs immediate attention. It also makes it much easier on the road since my home machine does all the filter and moves things on the IMAP server so that my iPhone and laptops stay in sync.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

oy

A couple of years ago my office switched to MS CMS for web updates. We keep finding these little, um, quirks that aren't in the documentation and that make things a little more interesting.

Today's was that you can't set anchor links on one page and then link to that anchor from another page. You can, seemingly, link to an anchor from the same page, but not another.
