I haven't headed out to pick up my copy of #3 yet, but sumi's first bit of white font just made me cheer out loud. YAY!
Other Media 2: It's Astounishing!
Discussion of comics, graphic novels, and more. Except for capes. No capes!
Please use spoiler font for new releases until after the weekend following release.
DH just IMed me to say he's on his way to Midtown to pick it up for me. He's the bestest DH ever!
sumi's woohoo is my woohoo. And it makes me wonder if someone has been lurking here and wishes they'd thought of victor's theory for what was up with Giles in season 7.
Also, I continue to not recognize Andrew from the artwork, and this time his behavior didn't really tip me off that it was him either. I do hope him and Warren get a lovely reunion time (waits for Matt to chime in on what the reunion should entail).
I hope they aren't going to be coy about what Willow was up to all year (as in, not ever tell us).
Now on to Astounishing...
Buffy #3 fell a little flat for me. It was entertaining 'n' all but my expectations of Joss are higher. However, page 3 of this issue WINS.
The final issue of 52, while not brilliant, at least gave the series more substance than a long preamble to 'Black Adam has a planet-wide tizzy laughably labled WWIII'.
In Previews (and ita) news - HOLY SHIT! - a new Martha Washington one-off by Miller & Gibbons called 'Martha Washington Dies'. Bloody hell. I hope Miller doesn't bugger up the Martha Washington saga like he did Dark Knight...
However, page 3 of this issue WINS.
Doesn't it, though?
I think Amy strikes me as a bit too powerful. Working up an assault that a castle full of Slayers can't fight off, holding her own in a magical duel with Willow, setting that magical boobytrap and being up to gloat about it after being stepped on... This sort of stuff I'd buy if it were Jasmine or one of the Senior Partners doing it, but the scale seems too big for Amy. I'd have preferred it if they limited her to what she did to Buffy and one sneaky tactic that takes Willow by surprise for the win.
I haven't read #3 yet, but that doesn't stop me from having a theory about Amy: She's not Amy, she's Amy's Mom.
Oh, that's an interesting theory. And really, Willow kind of suggests it in a roundabout way.
So, did everyone notice the picture of Joss on the page that has all the images from all of Buffy's dreams? That made me laugh and laugh and laugh. And then I sniffled when I saw Joyce lying on the couch. And then almost snerked up a lung at Buffy & Angel 4Ever, because even though it's from an episode, it's still going to piss off the rabid Spikefen.
And finally, in the panel where Andrew is all flamingly not interested in the Slayers playing strip poker right behind him, did y'all notice that one of the Slayers was reading Fray? Again, it made me laugh and laugh.
I must be the inverse of Pete, because I loved this issue (I almost said "episode") more than the first 2. The dialogue just kicked ass. And the final panel made me jump. (In a surprised way, not a "for joy" way.)
NOT ENOUGH AT ONCE!
Enjoyed. For the ten minutes it took to read. Dammit.
Hey, look at that. I'm Sean.
I do have to go back and look carefully for the things Steph points out, because I kind of flew through.
I also continue to fail to recognize Andrew from the artwork. Hmph.
Loved page 3. Loved seeing Ethan again, though I'm not quite sure I get how he ended up in Buffy's dreamland, or whatever. I have to re-read that.
I thought the bit about Kennedy being dead... oh, only for a month was hilarious, because I picture Joss picturing fans going, "Yay! Oh."
