It was one title where his "Back! Back to the way it was when first published, I say!" modus operandi REALLY suited the characters. He took them back to the emotional core of the Lee/Kirby days, with bonus smarts and agency for Sue.

His remake of Sue was definitely a high point not only for his run but for the character.
I really liked Sue! She seems like she's a pretty great strong female character for comics.

She didn't used to be. She was the wimpiest simp in the Marvel universe. But Byrne's remake of her was true to her roots and let her grow up and into her powers.

Ugh, I just read
Ghost World,
and it made me almost physically ill. Enid and Becky are so fucking awful for no good reason at all, and I didn't see any point to any of it. The last two chapters could have saved the book, but I'd had it long before that point.

Heh. And here I am with two (count 'em!) Enid dolls in my living room.
