Art Crawl!!!

I haven't read the comic but, I think that the pictures I've seen of it are enough to put me way off it. (Is it that comic that had people trying to mimic Starfire's pose - to hilarious effect?)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I haven't seen that, just people copying MJ in a Spider-man panel.

Art Crawl!!!

Ah - that's what I was thinking. (I believe that the poses were remarkable similar.)

This is the MJ pose. I haven't seen a Starfire one like that yet.

The Starfire one is where she is half crouched next to the guy in the beach chair. (I can't recall who the guy is supposed to be.)

I've been kvetching about the importance of feedback to the companies that are fucking with what was good, and someone pointed out feedback to DC. I don't know if they care, I don't know what the electronic version of the round file is, but complaining all over the web is one thing. Now I've officially registered my discomfort with my first ever letter to the editor. I probably should have sat down and planned it out, but I just wanted to get it done. I'm sure I forgot stuff and mis-stated other stuff, but now it's off my chest and in their inbox.

I know there's a lot of buzz about the bimbo-ification of Starfire and Catwoman across the internet. I don't know how much attention you pay to it. I've been doing my share of kvetching on forums, but you know what? That's really cheap and anyone can do it. And it might as well be pissing in the wind.

I don't know if this letter makes a difference, but it will clear my conscience if I can stand up and say...I miss the old Starfire. I had a lot of reservations about the reboot, and they more often than not come down to women. Oracle gone, Steph no longer an ex-Robin, little mention of Cass, Catwomen undressed for the first five pages of her comic, Harley Quinn running around in an unlaced corset, Voodoo on her hands and knees for money, Zatanna in a less classy *and* less sexy but more sexxed up costume, but more than anything else, it's Starfire.

I read the Perez Teen Titans voraciously, and always loved the "free love" Kori where "love" was the important part. She was mature, sexual, and healthily uninhibited. I don't get who she is now. I mean, you've taken a character whose visual design was pretty much textbook sexpot, and made them cheap in comparison. Kori isn't having sex or being attractive for the storyline, she's doing it for cheap thrills.

Maybe that's your target market. Maybe that's the money you want to earn. Maybe women (and men!) who like healthy voracious sexiness don't matter. Maybe women who like to see heroes they can look up to or identify with don't matter. But as a 25 year DC fan, this makes me sad, and really affects where my dollar goes.

I want to see women for whom sex isn't that important. And women for whom sex is important and normal and healthy. Where have all the relationships gone? Lois and Clark have been tossed out the window--will I only get anonymous Catwoman/Batman sex instead? Is that a fair trade?

For who?

Thanks for your time. No thanks for your characterisation.

I hope there were no egregious spelling or grammar errors.
