I honestly don't think that Objectivists would consider risking one's life (or risk of any kind, for that matter) to be inherently irrational if its done in the pursuit of something you value. In its own nutty way it's actually an ends-justify-the-means approach, not a cost/benefit check.

I'm betting those are the same ones who pick and choose which parts of the Bible they want to and ignore the stuff that doesn't push their agenda, so it doesn't surprise me in the least that they'd do the same thing with Rand.

Their editorial staff is out of line with the masses that come by, as is evidenced every time they talk about race and half the time they talk about gender. It can get pretty ugly.

But they're also pretty slash and fanfic friendly, and most of their regulars are "regular" sci fi nerd guys who have a passing interest in fic and little in slash. And then there's a cadre of squeeing girls (I've heard) who totally cheer them along. I mean, I do love that any time Cassandra Clare gets mentioned, one person brings up plagiarism, and most people have no idea what it's about. But one person mentions it.

And some guy usually mentions Rule 34 with disdain, and then five girls jump up cheering.

It's a fun place. They guess at my dark side.
