Clowes' opinion on Al Capp doesn't surprise me.

Clowes is a true connoisseur of bitterness. Love his stories about Capp, Hogarth, Ditko and Wood.

That Ditko story was just perfect.

Finally reading through Scott Pilgrim (just finished vol 4). I'm enjoying it, but the art bugs a bit. It's really hard to tell which character is which sometimes, especially in group scenes.

Having seen the movie first, I've been surprised by how much got changed. Cuts were expected, you just can't cram 6 graphic novels into one movie, but the plot changes caught me off guard a bit.

Lucas Lee's book vs. movie personality is probably one of the more notable character changes. Which means in the book Scott sort of comes across as a dick for how he defeats Lucas, whereas in the movie you felt like he had it coming. (I also think the Stunt Team fight in the movie worked really well.)

I was wondering if Roxy had gotten short shrift in the movie, and not really. She's really obnoxious and non-nonsensical in the book, too. Though the changes to her fight with Scott, and transposing the method of defeating of Envy onto her in the movie are problematic, to say the least.

Ramona definitely got shorted in the movie. She has a lot more personality and agency in the books. As ita, I think, said, it's good thing Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives good glare.

ETA: I really enjoyed the movie, and still think it's great. It just failed in some places the books succeeded. Though I suppose I should reserve final judgment until I finish the last two volumes.

I just finished reading a few weeks ago. I have been delaying watching the movie ever since I finished reading the series, because I'm afraid of how Kim Pine will be portrayed. I ended up over-identifying with her like whoa. I need to just get over myself and Netflix it because I'll probably love it.

So I just finished. Not to add to Mala's fears, but I was just about to say that Kim's character was definitely seriously short-changed in the movie.

I enjoyed it, but the whole glowing head thing confused the hell out of me. I know Gideon was responsible, somehow, but I just, yeah. I apparently am dense or something.

Having read the whole series, now, I will say that the movie is a great and fun action movie. It captures the look and feel of Scott's universe, but only touches the surface of the characters and the story.

Ha, no, it confused me too, and someone even asked Bryan Lee O'Malley about it at Comic-Con before I got a chance to. I handwaved it as a metaphor, which is pretty much the only way to make it work, since O'Malley said he wasn't really concerned with the sci-fi underpinnings so much as the character and emotion stuff.

The Free Comic Book Day issue included in the Full Colour Odds and Ends book. Scott and Ramona fight a bunch of ninja chicks just like they fight Roxy in the movie.

So has anyone read Locke and Key ? Because Josh Friedman is helming the TV show. Awesome.

I read the first tpb, but haven't read any more since. Is the second one out yet? I enjoyed it, didn't think it was amazing or anything, but I can see how it might make an awesome tv show.
