Count me in the teary contingent. What an amazing young man he is.
He handed me Matilda and she looked up at me with her giant brown eyes and I knew how important she was to me right then.
::sniff::
I barely knew her but I loved her so much already.
Awwwww.
I realized that she didn’t do too much. She was still only four days old so what can you expect of her.
Very worldly wise, that boy.
put whole paragraphs together (by speaking of course she can’t actually spell anything yet, but she can identify a lot of letters pretty consistently).
::snerk::
She is still the cute little girl that she was the day that she was born but now she’s even cuter, if that’s possible at all. Which it is!
::sniff::
Hec, you should re-post that in Bitches and/or Natter so that everyone can cry see how awesome Emmett is.
That is tear inducing awesomeness right there.
Yesterday Matilda was sad that she hadn't seen Emmett for a couple days (he was in the middle of a five day stretch with his mom). So she told JZ and she called EM and they arranged a drop-in. And they were very happy to see each other.
Mind, he's 13 and gets exasperated with her. He does not want to watch her shows on Nickelodeon. And they'll be cuddling and she'll bump her eye and be wildly accusatory ("Emmett hurt me!"). But really they enjoy each other tremendously. When he's here they spend a lot of time running up and down the hallway chasing each other and laughing madly. And he rides in the back seat when she's in the car and he'll lean over when he's tired, and she'll fall asleep playing with his hair.
And there are some times when she's upset that she doesn't turn to me or JZ for comfort, but wants Emmett instead. Which is pretty unusual for a three y.o.
On days when he's here, we almost always go over to Kezar Stadium and play a game. I throw a nerf football, and Emmett gets it, and Matilda chases him. And when she tags him he falls down all tackled. Then he rolls away as fast as he can and she runs and jumps on him. Then he throws the nerfball up in the air and she retrieves it and runs back to me with him in hot pursuit. And amazingly he always
just
barely misses her diving for her as she lands in my arms screeching and giggling madly.
Pretty much pure bliss for a three year old.
So effing sweet. Teary now.
Oh man, David. I love Emmett even more right now if that were possible. Which it is!
He handed me Matilda and she looked up at me with her giant brown eyes and I knew how important she was to me right then.
Shit, dude, this made me all kinds of allergic when *you* told us about Emmett's instant transformation into Super-Brother. But in his own words? DAMN.
You know when I knew Emmett was going to be okay with the big brother gig? When I saw him with Emeline at the SF2F, and he carried her off the ferry boat from Alcatraz.
The moment I knew from his own words that he loved her? When he told me she was better than a finger monkey.
That was just the sweetest thing. Thank you for posting Emmett's essay here.
It made me cry, too. He's so awesome. Thank you!
P.S. He is your spitting image.
