That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Oh my god, those posters are *stunning*.

If you look at the large version of Sally Jupiter's poster, in the background there's a bookshelf, and you can see that there's a volume of Juvenal on the shelf.

Damn, good catch! That's fantastic.

It was interesting to note the coloring and how over saturated the darker colors were.

I noticed in my reread last week that a lot of the colors bled over their outlines -- is that what you're talking about? I'll have to check out a newer edition now and see how different it looks to my untrained eye.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Juvenal's Satire VI is where "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?"

Wow, that is seriously impressive.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Ah, buffistas. Where geekiness and obsessiveness coalesce into one beautiful package.

Damn, good catch! That's fantastic.

Wow, that is seriously impressive.

Well, I have to 'fess up: I *did* see the volume of Juvenal on the shelf in the poster, but I didn't know that was where "Who watches the watchmen?" came from. (That was wikipedia; I was looking up general stuff on the Watchmen comic. And wikipedia mentioned Juvenal, and I thought, "Buh? Silk Spectre had a volume of Juvenal....DAMN, baby!")

So obsessive, yes; observant, yes; and geeky only in the sense that I'm willing to look shit up, yes. But I didn't just *know* that "Who watches the watchmen" came from Juvenal.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

If you look at the large version of Sally Jupiter's poster, in the background there's a bookshelf, and you can see that there's a volume of Juvenal on the shelf.

Juvenal's Satire VI is where "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" comes from. (Which translates to "Who will watch the watchmen?")

And THAT level of detail? KICKS ALL ASS.

I am speechless. Almost, I am reduced to emoticons.

Almost.

;)

Now tagless for your comfort.

So obsessive, yes; observant, yes; and geeky only in the sense that I'm willing to look shit up, yes.

I'm just glad I'm not alone in this. I've found myself losing hours just by clicking through Wikipedia when I've intended to look one thing up.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

geeky only in the sense that I'm willing to look shit up

I'm pretty sure that's a core part of the definition.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

And THAT level of detail? KICKS ALL ASS.

And you kickass for figuring it out and making me look kickass when I point it out to my geeky boyfriends.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Yes, although I keep thinking he's Robert Downey Jr.

Thank god I wasn't to only one.

And oh my god, Carla Gugino! I've had the hots for her for a LONG time, ever since she was in the BBC version of The Buccaneers.

Dammit, now I'm wishing for Karen Sisco DVDs all over again.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

Look hard for Watchman copies now. Back issues of the original series that once sold for under a dollar are climbing into the 5-10 dollar range, Watchman trades sold out at SDCC at retailers who charged $10 over retail, and DC plans to do a 200,000 print run and supposedly it has already been sold out...

Don't be like me and 'fess up; just casually say, "Well, the actual phrase IN ENGLISH isn't in the poster, sure. But I think the volume of Juvenal on the bookcase behind her is more than sufficient in that regard."

I've found myself losing hours just by clicking through Wikipedia when I've intended to look one thing up.

Actually, the wikipedia page on The Watchmen has the Juvenal reference. So I only had to click once in order to look like a total smarty-pants (if only I hadn't fessed up).

Dammit, now I'm wishing for Karen Sisco DVDs all over again.

The Buccaneers is great, if you like film adaptations of Edith Wharton.

Actually, I'd just say that it's unequivocally great.
