Steph- No shit.
The first issue of DC's Final Crisis was out yesterday, and WTF? man -- they killed Martian Manhunter! Well, you know, for whatever definition of "killed" DC uses these days. But still!
Also, the whole "Batman, R.I.P" storyline is (1) excessively contrived, even for DC, and (2) inevitably going to end up being lame as hell; I read somewhere that the "R.I.P." doesn't even stand for Rest In Peace, which is exactly the lame sort of literalistic bait-and-switch DC has been pulling lately.
Blue Beetle still rocks my socks.
- Final Crisis #1: kills Martian Manhunter
- Final Crisis #2: kills Jimmy Olsen
- Final Crisis #3: Revivifies Martian Manhunter, and then kills him off again.
- Final Crisis #4: kills Santa Claus
- Final Crisis #5: kills Deadman (now even more deader!)
Hee.
I think the giant-size Astounishing that comes out on Thursday is Joss' last issue before Warren Ellis takes over.
Indeed it is. And I'm shocked to see no chatter about the final fate of Kitty Pryde. Because really? What was the point of bringing her back if you're just going to launch her into space inside a giant pallic symbol and walk away?
Victor, I was just saying that to my co-worker earlier. (Well, mostly what I said was, "Of *course* that's what happened; it's goddamned Joss Whedon.")
Haven't managed to get to it yet. Unfortunately, I just read the white font. Um...
Victor, I was just saying that to my co-worker earlier. (Well, mostly what I said was, "Of *course* that's what happened; it's goddamned Joss Whedon.")
Joss's caprice's usually make at least a LITTLE sense to me. This one didn't. At all. Not that I minded Kitty's save of the planet, but it seems such an ignoble end for a character he obviously so delighted in. Not that the door's not open for her to come back if some other writer was so inclined -- I mean, she's been deader before -- but still. I finsihed that and went, "Huh?"
Victor, I finished it and was taken aback because of the gazillion pages at the end with the covers; when I got to the end, it looked like there were more pages of story, and SURELY that couldn't be the end!
