Victor, I was just saying that to my co-worker earlier. (Well, mostly what I said was, "Of *course* that's what happened; it's goddamned Joss Whedon.")
Joss's caprice's usually make at least a LITTLE sense to me. This one didn't. At all. Not that I minded Kitty's save of the planet, but it seems such an ignoble end for a character he obviously so delighted in. Not that the door's not open for her to come back if some other writer was so inclined -- I mean, she's been deader before -- but still. I finsihed that and went, "Huh?"

Victor, I finished it and was taken aback because of the gazillion pages at the end with the covers; when I got to the end, it looked like there were more pages of story, and SURELY that couldn't be the end!
