Happy Birthday, Shrift!!

Big Congrats (times two!) to Kat and Lori!!!

In completely other news (political), this rocks:

Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress, found himself under attack last month when he announced he'd take his oath of office on the Koran -- especially from Virginia Rep. Virgil Goode, who called it a threat to American values.

Yet the holy book at tomorrow's ceremony has an unassailably all-American provenance. We've learned that the new congressman -- in a savvy bit of political symbolism -- will hold the personal copy once owned by Thomas Jefferson.

Very smart move, Congressman Ellison!

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Somehow, I don't think Glen Beck or Dennis Prager or any of those other idiots will give a rat's ass.

What is even happening?

Happy Birthday, shrift!!!

Heh. My sad family news was a call from Tim that one of the beagles had run away and was missing for hours. It was cold and rainy and Harrison is not very bright.
So Tim was beside himself and plastering the hood with pics of Harrison. I feared the worst.
He got a call the next morning, a pet grooming place found him wandering the corner of Western and Hollywood - meaning he got across two very busy streets- and picked him up. They put him in a crate(!) and Tim ran down and found him snoozing contentedly in the crate.

Ooof, Allyson. Poor Tim! I'm glad he found Harrison (bad beagle, no biscuit), and that it had not one thing to do with the Kat o' lori babes.

It was this moment of squee, then worry, made really weird-uncomfortable-uncertain, because I knew I shouldn't know anything, and wasn't sure I did.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Somehow, I don't think Glen Beck or Dennis Prager or any of those other idiots will give a rat's ass.

Yeah, but it gives a good way to spin this.

"Are you saying Thomas Jefferson is a threat to America's values?"

Speaking of Glenn Beck (and I try not to, as often as possible), it seems that the local talk radio is dropping Glenn Beck. My neocon coworker is thinking about boycotting the station altogether, which would mean she wouldn't listen to Rush anymore either.

It's a belated Christmas friggin' miracle.

(In her words, "People of my generation did not send out their scans!")

Jessica, I find that utterly charming and completely hilarious.

It is probably just as well I do not intend to ever be pregnant, because I would be that lady going "OK, yeah, yeah, baby, neato! , now where's my spleen* ?! What else can you see with that?"

* I completely sucked at those put-yer-organs-away models at the doctor's office, so I actually don't recall if the spleen would be viewable. Use appropriate organ of choice.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

So it's not the book but the belief that counts? I wonder what I'd have to swear on. Maybe a dictionary.

What is even happening?

You know, I'm all about the Bible, but I don't get this Ellison issue.

Why would anyone want someone to swear in on a book he-doesn't-accept-as-holy, if there's a book he does think is holy, one which he willing to use, in an oath?

The humans, they are too strange.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

There you go with that sense-making thing again, Cindy.

Why do you hate America?
