Premium Cable: The Cursing Costs Extra
[NAFDA] A thread for the discussion of all original programming on HBO, Showtime, Starz and other premium channels.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I'm about halfway through Dead as a Doornail (book 5). Someone is shooting shifters and someone just tried to burn down Sookie's house.
These are just fun, light books that make me giggle while I read them.
If the tv show semi-follows book 4, I have high hopes for the season! By reading the books, I realized the biggest problem with the series. Not every single character needs a storyline. They need to focus on a few main characters and allow others to just be supporting characters.
It does make me laugh that almost every single person who meets Sookie either wants to love her (have sex with her) or kill her.
I don't know, the latter seems to me like it's a natural outgrowth of being exposed to her personality for any length of time. As for the former, no clue whatsoever.
awesome, Rayne. book four remains my favorite...for obvious reasons. the last book was terrible and i'm not entirely sure what she was thinking. makes me not want to run out and buy the next one the day it comes out though.
book!Sookie is way more tolerable, Matt. i'm still not sure why AB chose to make her the way that she is in the show.
Given she is fae, I actually understand the former a whole lot. I bet she has an affect on all kinds of beings that she may not intend (and heretofore did not know about).

Honestly, I like Show!Sookie more than Book!Sookie. Yes, she is a halfwit, but at least she's a halfwit who's concerned about substantial things rather than rambling on about how her hair is done or the cute tube top she bought at a Wal-Mart clearance sale for pages on end. I can feel sympathy for someone who's stupid, but shallow vapidity is like nails on a chalkboard.
1) Bubba. (preferably played by Bruce Campbell
Ok, I totally understand why they wouldn't have Bubba in the show, but my inner fangirl just went SQUEEEE! at the thought of BC playing him!
That would ROCK.
But he would be less . . . damaged and more snarky than Book!Bubba. (Which would also be excellent.)
I actually like Book!Sookie much better than Show!Sookie! Show!Sookie is just so selfish. I almost wanted to throw something at my tv screen when Tara apologized to Sookie in the last episode, but Sookie didn't apologize back.
Book four is definitely my favorite so far! I really hope they'll be covering that storyline next season. I think having storylines that occur in and around Bon Temps will do nothing but help the show because it will be easier to have the characters interact without giving ever single one their own storyline. (Book five is local too, so that's two seasons where they can concentrate on Bon Temps and surrounding areas).
I'm on book six now. Not enough Eric, but so far Quinn is yum!
This series is like crack!
This is probably already heresy, but so far, I really hate Boardwalk Empire. I'm a Scorsese fan, so it's not like I can't hack the violence, but I don't care either. And it's way more sexist than Deadwood, even though most of those women were also prostitutes.
And I don't care about Nucky Thompson, or at least not enough to see a young woman doing reverse-cowgirl on him.
I haven't watched it yet, but the reviews I read said that the pilot is actually the weakest of those sent out to the critics.

the actor who played Omar shows up in the third episode.
