This is probably already heresy, but so far, I really hate Boardwalk Empire. I'm a Scorsese fan, so it's not like I can't hack the violence, but I don't care either. And it's way more sexist than Deadwood, even though most of those women were also prostitutes. And I don't care about Nucky Thompson, or at least not enough to see a young woman doing reverse-cowgirl on him.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I haven't watched it yet, but the reviews I read said that the pilot is actually the weakest of those sent out to the critics.

Also the actor who played Omar shows up in the third episode.

Well, it sort of better be, because if you've ever seen a crime story in your life, you've seen that pilot.(Unless you've been in a cave for six weeks without cable, in which case you might actually find Nucky bullshitting the Temperance League while profiteering some kind of delicious irony.) Nucky is no Clay Davis, though. There was something about that guy. Even if you hate him, you kind of like him and want to watch what he does. So far, there is no one like this on this show. But, I guess there's only one Ian McShane out there...not that Ian McShane played Clay Davis, but he has that same "Your eyes should be here," kind of quality. They made the combat veteran actually say "After all the things I did Over There..."(Wow, it really takes an Emmy winner to come up with that.) I saw that actor's name in the credits, Frank. He has been good in a lot of stuff that kind of wasn't after The Wire...and I like "Mean Streets" and King of Comedy and so forth...that's worth another hour or so. Not a lot more, since I know what tits look like, but it's true there aren't many pilots that are instantly good, like the Sopranos or Treme. I can't say if The Wire was instantly good as a pilot cause I watched it after Season 2, so I knew I wanted to see it. The scene about Snot remains a favorite, though.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

No Dexter talk yet? That was not what I was expecting.

I'm reading promo material about Dexter but won't be watching it until after it all airs.

I really liked "Teenaged Papparrazzo" over and above my desire to ogle Mr. Grenier. He might actually be a documentarian...who knew?

"Oh no! Has falling sky liquid once again caused you the sadness?" -Starfire

Kevin Alejandro (Jesus from True Blood) was on Parenthood last night. He is so yummy!

I'm catching up on Entourage 7 (plus starting on the just-aired season of True Blood). Ent7 is a really strong season. I think it's the best one yet. The boys are not just being boys. E is working hard, doing a good job. Turtle is working hard and really trying to get businesses off the ground, even when they are falling apart as soon as he puts 1 + 1 together. Drama is stressing over his finances and trying to get a job (and it's great to see Wm. Fincher again). Vince is self-destructing with a porn star girlfriend and drugs. Ari is paying the price for his abuse of coworkers and employees. It's grounded, and there are serious consequences for the character's actions. Oh, and Billy the director is back, sober and observant. I have a few more eps but so far, I can't wait for next season and I highly recommend this season.

You know that she's really in porn, right? She's a good actress, too. Sad to say, I think "porn" and I think of those Pussy Patrol ladies from the ComicCon episode. I thought that she and Vince had good chemistry. I found this season a bit less vicarious and amusing, but it's a decent tradeoff for making things a bit more complicated.
