To tell you the truth, I never thought Zach read gay, until the implied coming-out scene, which felt contrived to me. I thought he had a crush on Claire. Then again, I never paid attention to the MySpace page, and website stuff, either.

Ditto to all that. One of my guesses would be they weren't expecting it to come off like he has a crush on her, and maybe they decided to change course to take advantage of the chemistry? I don't know. I was surprised to learn he was being presented as gay in the collateral materials (I tend to avoid homework with my TV, beyond boards) -- I just figured on the show, the kids who mocked him were being jackasses like kids are.

I always got the gay vibe from him. I liked that it wasn't the pathetic geek craving love from the cheerleader

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I got an outcast, to-be-resolved vibe from him. Having him not be gay doesn't stick out to me.

Who knew the network responsible for Mansquito had this kind of quality up their sleeves?

I know!

What is even happening?

Right. I even considered whether the coming-out implication was going to end up being a bait and switch, and he didn't actually mean he was gay.

It's really strange that their collateral materials presented him as gay or at least unsure of his sexuality, if that's not where they were going with his story. Hmmm.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Just think of what Mansquito could have been...okay, nevermind.

I don't know what to make of the gay/not gay thing. Other than, there must still be a lot of conservatism in the heart of the good ol' boy networks. And also, that collateral material is not, evidently, canon.

hmm, I can agree with this. I think that the issue is more the "in-ing", rather than the character is not gay.

"What does the gun do?"
"It shoots bullets really fast."

I was watching so cursorily that I don't have a clue about anything that happened - though I will make an effort to watch at some point - but I happened to focus on the screen when that came out, and I was very amused. Also saw a very cool Peter Krause walk-n-stare. Also, also, I didn't know that the actor's name was pronounced all German-like until I heard it on a Sci-fi promo recently.

I hadn't really thought about Zach's sexuality much, though it seemed clear to me in the ep w/ the Homecoming Dance that he had feelings (whoa-whoa-whoa-feelings) for Claire. Or, that's what I took from it, anyway. I didn't know that the character was originally planned to be gay.

SGA - I can't even believe the episode title - is coming to me now. Halfway there. Whee!

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

I don't know. Zach pretty much told Claire straight out he didn't have a crush on her at one point. Granted, he could have been lying, but I seem to recall him giving the impression that it was silly for her to even think that.

I don't remember that part - which is unsurprising, because I really need to sit down and rewatch the whole first ten, or whatever, over again. I think I missed a lot when I was still trying to figure out who everyone was.

Huh. I took away just the opposite. When he came to get her from her bedroom, I thought he came out to her.
