The Great Write Way
A place for Buffistas to discuss, beta and otherwise deal and dish on their non-fan fiction projects.
I'm three for three in the reviews department! Library Journal review came out today:
Theater producer Penelope Wintercraft-Hawkes senses immediately that a London theater building bequeathed to her by a wealthy and eccentric French aunt she scarcely knew is unusual. The Victorian location could prove very beneficial to Penny's traveling troupe, but phantom odors, burning voices, and random shocks alarm both Penny and Ringan, her folklorist/guitarist/restorer boyfriend, then cause the death of a restoration specialist. The pair investigate and, with help from a retired archivist, pinpoint the cause of the disturbance. This follow-up to Grabien's debut, The Weaver and the Factory Maid, is an admirable blend of historical fact, folklore, and fancy - all told with compelling panache. Grabien lives in San Francisco. Off to Seattle.

Sounds like fun!
I'm writing up a storm this weekend. Since Friday, I've finished two columns ("How To Succeed As A Failing Writer" and the first of the new column over at WriteMovies.com, "Infante's Inferno,") along with the new bit of the weird-ass Oz and his "through the looking glass" Scooby Gang fic.
Best not to question it, I suppose.
And speaking of which ...
In the latest installment of "How To Succeed As A Failing Writer," the author extolls the virtues of reading comic books and writing Buffy fan fic. Does he know his audience, or what?
No Writer is an Island ... Except Maybe One Or Two, Who Are Fiji
I know that virtually this entire thread is off Halloweening, but in my very small worldview...Nanowrimo starts tomorrow! I'm doing it again this year, but unlike last year, I have no clue what I want to write about. I want to be more character-based than plot-device-y this time, so...
I am taking suggestions for character names. Real world setting, so no Fancy McFancypants, please. First three suggestions are go. Thankyewverymuch.
Elizabeth Fraser. Elizabeth because DH vetoed it for Annabel, and Fraser because it's the front runner for my pen name last name if for any reason I decide not to write under my real name.
I'm doing NaNoWriMo in spirit, since rather than trying to write a novel from scratch in a month, I'm trying to finish a major edit/rewrite of one.
Very nice. So noted.
A (last?) music drabble.
what it is
it doesn't save the world, although it makes it bright
it cannot protect you, but can provide a refuge
it will not change the universe, though it might your life
it does not give you value, but it may be valued
it doesn't give me flight, but it can make me free
no salve for my burned soul, although it soothes my mind
it doesn't let me escape, but still escapes from me
it doesn't solve my problems, but it helps me try
i cannot count the things it cannot be
and yet i count on it to sustain me
Mitchell Corbin. 'Coz I'm contractually obligated to stick corvid references into every thing I can. Moo hoo ha ha, etc.
Also doing the NaNoWriMo thing again. P'raps this time I'll actually finish it...Planning on a pulpy swordNsorcery thing, coz that's what I think in. Sad, really.
Not so sad, Joe. I like those things.
I'm planning to do it too, I think. I was far more certain last week, when it wasn't sneaking up on Nov. 1
If you're going to write a novel, it might as well be a novel you enjoy reading, and especially enjoy writing. It seems to me that part of NaNoMoWri should be actually enjoying the writing....
