I totally love the Hodgeman. Though I think I would love his book more if he was reading it, than I do reading myself, where it's only medium funny.

if I was floating in space and there was a marble that was orbiting me at, say, five feet away - how long would it take for one orbit?

Today on YouTube -- A monkey protecting a kitten from a chicken. (Or maybe it's a chicken trying to rescue a kitten from a monkey. It's hard to tell.)
THe Hummer ads on TWoP's front page are cracking me up today.

Let's see....
For a body in an elliptical orbit of semimajor axis a about a much more massive body of mass M the orbital period P is given by
P=(2 pi a3/2) / √(gM)
Unfortunately, I don't know what g (acceleration due to gravity, I think) would be.... oh well.
There's a guy here at work who's very patient with me, like it's all he can do to avoid blowing his stack with me.
Thing is, he's like that whether I agree with him or not. I cannot even begin to imagine how to calm him down. Sure, many of the times we disagree I'm right, and that may be annoying, but when we're in accord?
Perplexed.
There's a woman here who generally seems either condescending or defensive, but I'm pretty sure she only means it about half of the time. It's just her way.

It's just her way.
When he says "How can I explain this without losing it?" when he's asking me to prepare a draft of a document for which he later admits I don't have the information to even start...it's more than just his way.
