I'm trying to decide whether to dress up tonight. The kids are having a dance, and instructors are encouraged to at least stop by for a little while. I'm going to, because it's always fun, and it's hysterical to watch the girls try to be all sophisticated and grown-up while the boys do things like try to see who can drink the most disgusting concoction of fruit punch and crumbled chips. Anyway, the theme is "decades" -- pretty much, dress in something from some decade other than the current one. Fifties and sixties are always popular. Only problem is, I have nothing terribly retro-looking here with me. I could do some sort of fifties thing with jeans and a white t-shirt, but that's kind of boring. Any suggestions?
The last line of the Chaucer HP killed me completely ded.

A side ponytail, some serious blush and eye shadow and you can look eighties no matter what else you wear.
NO! No I did not!
Aha! Well, neither did I until last night. Le Bloke picked up at a flyer at a comic book shop. I'm not sure on the details, but yeah, comic book and SF thingy.
Ooh, wait, he just came on msn. I shall garner details.
scurries back from Google
Is it this?

Good idea, but I don't have any makeup here.
Rolling up the cuffs of my jeans to make them into pedal-pushers, plus white t-shirt and high ponytail, with Converse, seems to work for impromptu fifties, I think. (Why did I forget to bring a tie-dye shirt? They have theme days every year, and a tie-dye shirt is always useful for at least one of those.)
Yes, yes it is. Fancy it?
Oooh! I could definitely be tempted. Although I rather fear the money haemmoraging thing, but, but...and it looks like it's close to the train station and everything!
t sorely tempted
Cash, JZ, and flea - thanks for the maternity-wear advice and links. I've forwarded it all. Up to and including the surry/Suri discussion.
I'm glad your DH is home and doing well, connie. May the treatment do its job well.
Cash, so sorry the shot has lost effectiveness; I'm sending along all good thoughts and -ma for you.
R's boss is an asshead.
Agreed.
Serious health-ma to your grandpa, Steph.
Dental health-ma to Robin. Minimal pain, too.
Yay, Jen! Congratulations!
I will be Pirating at the movies on Saturday with my niece, assuming there are tickets to be had. And I will look appropriately piratey, too, including my skull and crossbone earring in the second hole of the two-hole ear and my requisite scarf, of course.
ETA: And, sj, energy-ma to you.
