May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

{{{{Connie}}}}

It's never easy and even though it's the right thing to do, it certainly isn't the easiest. Losing a pet sucks hard core. Keep strong and have some drinks.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

{{{{{Suela}}}}}} I am so so sorry. You did the right thing for him, but that doesn't make your loss any easier. He had a good life with you and you made his passing as easy and painless as possible.

{{{Consuela}}} I'm so sorry. It's the right thing to do, but terribly hard.

Thanks, folks. I'll try not to weep all over the thread.

Any Bay Area-istas interested in some free theater this afternoon? Shotgun Players are doing Ragnarok in North Berkeley, and I may go. Battles, giant snakes, and genderbending gods, what's not to love?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I wish I had seen that earlier, Consuela. I would have gone. If you don't go, and want to go tomorrow, let me know.

I'm so sorry about the Beast, Suela. (But 15 is a very impressive age for a big dog, right?)

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Consuela, my sympathies. Losing a pet is always hard.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

'Suela, you did the responsible thing. That's the problem with being a grown up. But--you also know you did the best thing, and the rest of you will catch up with that knowledge before long.

I'm feeling a bit better now--as I go around the house straightening up, I'm finding more evidence of him vomiting in the corners. He was very uncomfortable for the last few days.

But I'm still sad.

Lee, some friends of mine are going and I'm meeting them there, so it looks like I'm going today. But the show is still going for another few weeks, and they do fun performances. It's an old WPA-era outdoor theater, with live oaks overhead and big stone steps to sit on (I bring cushions).
