Now, I can hold a note for a long time...actually I can hold a note forever. But eventually that's just noise. It's the change we're listening for. The note coming after, and the one after that. That's what makes it music.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

From Feministing:

Our crush of the week is Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, after seeing a recent speech he made at an event for Equality Now. Check it out. So hot.

[link]

The speech itself was top-notch. What I think should be the take-home part is,

- "Why do you write these strong female characters?"

-"This is ridiculous... why don't you ask a hundred other guys why they don't?"

or the final answer, "Because you're still asking me this question."

I haven't actually watched the interview yet....

Woe to the fucking wicked.

It's not an interview. It's a speech. His central theme is that people keep asking him why he writes strong female characters (dozens of times a day during press tours), and his speech is primarily made up of answers to that question.

What is even happening?

It's 8 minutes and five seconds including the titles. You can forward through Streep's intro and save yourself a few seconds, if you want.

It's prime Joss, who I don't really want to love on account of his abandoning me, but he made me love him. He always does.

Always Anti-fascist!

Yes. Love. And he likes the fans, unlike Fontana, say, who made a big point of saying that it was his show and he'd do whatever he wanted to it. Poor H:LOTS.

U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear fight over Pooh's honeypot

Was that another "I know when I see it" case?

What is even happening?

I'm hoping it was a

a) It's hunny

b) You all have already desecrated the poor thing beyond recognition anyhow, out of our sight, you sicken us

...type of thing.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I always wondered how Disney ended up with Pooh. Sounds like a sad story.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Happy birthday, JZ!

Work is weird.

I can't decide if I should take the third of July off. I don't have anything in particular to do with it, and it can be nice to come into work on a low-traffic low-interruption low-expectation day.

On the other hand, sleeping past 5:45 is always nice.

Smart Cars are coming! [link] They were in one of the eraly TARs and somebody (was it the original frat boys TAR?) said, "It's like driving a Swatch watch!" They are so funny to see on the streets - I used to see them often in Athens.
