tommy, I thought of you at lunch --in the classified ads someone is giving away their 8 yr old Sphynix.
aww.... I hope the kitty finds a good home.
Also, the all-cat
Triumph of the Will
should have the Hitler!Sphynx play Hitler. Then there could be people saying, "He talks about the master species, but he's not even a real cat...."
How is the new place working out, Kathy?
Pretty well, so far. When I went in to pick up my new phonebooks last week, I didn't have to give them my name--they just picked out the package from the batch they were holding for residents. I was surprised that they already know me since I've only been in there a few times (to get a working mailbox key and drop off the rent check).
The cable is a bit wonky (someone disconnected it last week for no particular reason--I think they got me confused with someone else at the main box, and now the On Demand channel's not working), and the elevator can be a bit touchy (it didn't want to move from the third floor when I was trying to go to work this morning), but having AC is wonderful when it's 90 degrees out!
I'm not out of the woods yet, at least, not enough to stop me being nervous, but the doctor says he thinks it's only a bad sprain. X-rays showed no bone damage, at least. If I'm unhappy with how it's healing in three weeks, I'm to go see him again.
t lets out breath she was holding
And excellent news to you too, Dana!
I just got my first outside phone call, and I had no freaking idea how to answer it! It was a two-part question, and I couldn't even answer the first, factual, part. Luckily, the caller was nice, I said I was new, and could find the answer if she gave me a minute. I think it will be OK, but I really wish the people I emailed about the second part of the question would write back.
I'm thinking good thoughts for your health, tommy and Dana.
Mostly sleeping all day (and some meds) seems to have taken the edge off the headache.
Annoyingly, they're coming with weakness more often--last night I couldn't really cut my food. It's very weird.
Timelies all!
Happy Birthday Plei!
The con was fun, and I didn't get anywhere enough sleep. Par for the course.
I just got an lj account on Thursday, but I don't think I have to worry about my folks reading my posts. I'm not sure they understand that AOL is not the Internet...(many of my real-life friends have ljs, which is part of the reason I got one)
Grrr. HR came over here and told my two bosses that I
owed
41.5 HOURS of vacation time. Basically meaning, that my last check would only be a week, not two.
I disagreed VEHEMENTLY and turns out, HR counted three days of vacation as six, and charged the same 5 hours to both ETO and vacation.
Turns out, they owe ME un-used time off.
Jackholes.
I'm glad that rightness is prevailing for you, Aimee -- and that Dana's ankle is good. And yeah, tommy's eye, too.
I heard from my Mom that my aunt went out to dinner last night, which means she is feeling up to Being Seen in Public -- not a small thing when you've had a stroke so recently. It looks like they can go to the beach house just a little bit later than usual this year.
Me, I'm sitting out in the backyard presently, with every square inch of bare skin sprayed with anti-bug goop.
::waves shaky fist at mosquitos::
Glad there's good news about your aunt, Theo.
Aimee, good for you for getting yours!
OK. I put in my airconditioner. The previous tenant actually drilled holes in the window ... not the sill, the edge around the glass part. And there are holes in the edge of the A/C. But that part of the window doesn't go down on top of the A/C! I don't get it. It seems sturdy enough in there, I just need duct tape or something to cover up all these damn holes.
What about other family members, or face-space friends - do they get free (or more) access to lj/forums/fic/whatever? I mean, parents are quite different, in the level of sharing with them, than other friends, and even other family members, right? Is there an online difference, too?
Heh. Well, back in the day, Cybervixen got me into LJ. And no one I knew in "real" life had one, just a few buffistas. And then I was having a talk with this friend of a friend at a party, and somehow Smallville slash came up, and next thing you know, we're talking about LJ. And one of my friends turns out to be deeply in the fannish closet. And then suddenly all my real life friends got LJs. And my sister. And my brother. Eep! I've got a couple different filters, nowadays, for the occasions when I'm trying to keep it to people who I actually trust, or people who don't know my RL friends, but I share most all of it with my sister. Cause she's cool. I would not, however, share ANY of it with my parents. I mostly hope they never find it, because even the public entries are really more than I want to share with THEM! (Though it wouldn't cause a meltdown, it would be a little TMI)
But most of my RL friends, while vaguely aware that there's some "buffy board" I post on, don't really know about b.org, I think...but they also don't care. (Well, and Vortex. She's a RL friend. But she's the one who told me about TableTalk, back in the day)
Since he is engaged and a divinity school student, I managed to refrain from asking if he'd read Lust Over Pendle, which is the only Harry Potter fanfic I've actually heard of.
But it's good! If he hasn't, he should!
