I'm so making the pilgrimage to Green Bay if we go to Madison (if I can afford it). I never managed to make it when I did live in the Midwest (among the Midwesterners of various body types and speeds), and that's a crying shame.
'Safe'
F2F 4: Too Much Candy, Never Enough Mojitos.
Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon: Madison, WI from June 20-22 2008! Official website.
A choice of Madison will seal the deal for me and it will be my first official F2F!
I realize now it's not that the pace is too slow, it's that the volume of the crowd makes the pace impossible for an individual to control. It feels uncomfortable to be forced to move along at the same pace as everyone else. The word cattle comes to mind.
No, Laga, my response was to the sweeping generalization and, imo, rudeness of your wording -
slow fat midwesterners
Considering the varied sizes and shapes of the members of our community, it would be all too easy for people's feeling to be hurt by your comment. I've always thought of b.org as a safe place from that kind of attitude.
Goes to sit in Nicole's corner.

I think that it is. As a person who can be sensitive about her weight, though, I didn't notice it. I thought of it more as a personality thing that an actual physical things. Like if we called a group "grey haired grannies", I don't think that anyone with grey hair would be offended.
(and how annoyed am I that the spellcheck thinks that I am misspelling "grey")
It didn't hit me, and I'm a fast impatient fat former Midwesterner.
Yeah, I was skimming over the comments yesterday but rereading today I have to say that for me, it did ping me and bothers me. Partly because of the "fat" comment and partly because it bugs whenever anyone disses on the people from the midwest.
Fat Yankee slips in for the slut.

I had to add it to my dictionary. Silly gray haired wrong headed spellchecker.
