Another fat former Midwesterner here. I reserve the right to dis on the Midwest -- at a bare minimum, the part of Wisconsin where I grew up.
Madison is a very Buffista city. (May I also suggest Old World Wisconsin to history and craft buffs?) My problem is that it's a little too close to certain persons that I'm avoiding.

Which is where I've been meaning to announce I'm going for NYE. My brother's fiance is planning to do a Russian-style New Year's. Which I don't know what is, but since it's their biggest holiday, I'm sure will be lavish and fun.

From what I recall of the one Russian-hosted New Year's I've attended - borscht and vodka. LOTS of vodka. So much vodka.
