And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

HA.

(That's the one place along the I-95 corridor that my dad NEVER wanted to stop and eat (because it's a shithole) and somehow, we ALWAYS ended up needing gas when we passed it, and having to stop anyway, in spite of the previous 5 hours being spent going "Okay, this year, we are NOT stopping at Vince Lombardi!")

It is the Garden State after all.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Tom, I think we've found a location. We can have Prom at Dickey's BBQ Pit Express.

I was kinda hoping for the Eerie Pennsylvania TravelPort myself. They have an Iron Skillet!

I think she is, but she's been uber-busy. I was just offerering help if she (or anyone else) would like it. I don't mind organizing big events.

Awesome. Because I'm not good for more than wisecracks, morale support and, uhm, more wisecracks in this matter.

But New England rocks. Museum of Science, Salem, good places to eat, yadda-yadda-yadda.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

As far as east coast roadside attractions go, South of the Border probably can't be beat: [link] [link]

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

My ex and I once did a road trip from central New Jersey to Savannah GA in one fell swoop. We were insane well before we reached South of the Border, and the sight of it merely confirmed our madness.

Instead of Vince Lombardi, I vote Walt Whitman. Or Molly Pitcher. As long as it has a Cinnabon. Honestly, doing a F2F in Jersey is probably the only way I'll actually get to go to one. I'd like to meet the Buffistas someday. (Yes, collectively.)

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I stayed at South of the Border once. (I was 11. It was a family vacation. We were on our way to Hilton Head.) The rooms were even worse than you'd expect.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Not about pitching, about a different kind of face to face: I'm supposedto wave love at Jilli and Pete from Neil Gaiman. We just spent (about six of us total) seven hours in a gorgeous uproarious disreputable carouse and ended up at Scala. When I told him I wanted to wave at him from you two, he said "Ah, now there's two people I love. Wave back."

So, there you go. Love back from Neil. Who is theoretically coming here for dinner on his next Bay Area swingthrough.

Yes, I'm gloating....

Mostly lurking...

vw has it on her list to send out an RFP to the city tourist board on Wednesday. Should have more info soon. As KristinT noted, I've been "uber busy," but am back from my little trip and am trying to get caught up on the things I let slide.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I am impressed that Scola pulled out the Vince Lombardi service area. One of the most memorable rest stops I've ever been in, and not in a good way.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

You should have experienced it in the 1970s. If you thought the smell was bad now...
