Didn't this happen with that FX show? The New Orleans heist one? It was cancelled and I think Andre Braugher ended up winning an Emmy in the miniseries category.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see the BSG got a nom. Less pleasant and less surprised about the Sopranos noms.

I was never clear whether that was intended to be any longer than it was. Whatever it was, it was wonderful.
I think the first season was supposed to be as long as it ended up being. It just never got a second season due to poor ratings.
Personally, I tried to stick with the show and couldn't do it.
I quite liked it, but couldn't work out how it could sustain more than the one season.
I think that maybe he could have moved to a new city with his step daughter, and he needed to pull another heist to make money since he gave it all to what'shisname to get her back.
Part of the appeal to me was the post-Katrina New Orleans vibe, so I don't know if it would have worked after that for me. I'm content with the six episodes (or whatever) there were.
