[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm saying is that viewership of serial drama is likely effected by the number of dramas being cancelled

I'm pretty sure Fox doesn't look at it your way.

Worst comes to worst, why worry over serial dramas anyway? Especially if they're not what earns them advertising dollars as a genre.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Knowing FOX, they'll probably decide to try airing bear baiting instead.

How about "Celebrity Running with the Bulls"? It would probably only last one episode, but it would be an entertaining one episode (especially if viewers can vote in the celebrity of their choice).

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I don't think the American/Canadian viewing public thinks, "hmmm. Serial dramas aren't doing so well as a genre. I better not watch."

There isn't a particular formula to it, or every show developed would be a hit.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It would probably only last one episode, but it would be an entertaining one episode

Are you kidding? With new celebrities being created every day by being voted off other shows, it could run FOREVER! Sure, they'd have to replace the cast every week, but who's going to complain?

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

Allyson, I'm not saying that's the reason Drive (for example) failed to catch a big audience. I've personally seen and heard people in real life(tm) saying 'Oh, I'm not going to watch xxx on E4 as it'll just get cancelled'. It's not a big factor, but if every FOX show fails this year (which they basically will) it's gotta be a thing for some viewers.

Kristen wrote 106, so I'm pleading with the universe that they air them all.

I'm still pleading with the universe they get go ahead for 1 or 2 more to wrap things up. Wah!

Although if they don't, Tim should totally write a Drive movie for Paramount with a catchy tag.

Drive is a thing for some viewers, but if it doesn't materially affect the bottom line, some viewers don't count.

Didn't they predict the death of the serial drama a few years ago? Maybe Fox doesn't have the resources to keep it alive. They'll keep making money nonetheless.

I don't think you can compare the handful of people you know in the UK to the entire American viewing public. If that were the case, Fox would be advertising shows with, "This time, we're gonna show you ALL 22 EPISODES!"

I'm not comparing to that scale -- I'm just giving my experience. You can go online and see a great many similar comments.
