Allyson, just because you believe something is true, does not make it fact. Drive's lack of online activity is a fact. If that can be translated or observed for useful purposes is up for debate.
The Minearverse 5: Closer to the Earth, Further from the Ax
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
For what it's worth, I agree with your overall point, Allyson. The 'Chicken Little' crack isn't blunt though, it's name calling. It's not all that harsh where name calling is considered. It just seems beneath our usual level of discourse, here.
If anyone's keeping tabs, I agree with Allyson. The initial post felt like searching for a reason to be negative on TV's hit Drive, to be honest.
AND IN OTHER NEWS:
I've posted those promos I was discussing earlier. If they're reposted/mentioned elsewhere, please remember where you got the goods from. I can't stop people from taking my content, so I'll settle for being constantly validated via proper citations.
Gut feeling from what I've seen so far is that it isn't standing out to people.
This is what I'm disputing, Kevin. In case I'm unclear. Drive's lack of online activity (whatever that means, seriously) has nothing actually to do with the American public's interest in the series. The American public is fucking HUGE.
You say yourself here:
But I think we all know that online buzz isn't always a good indicater of offline interest.
And then follow with:
Gut feeling from what I've seen so far is that it isn't standing out to people. But I'd love to be wrong.
But then there's:
Net buzz, of course, doesn't always translate to something working (or, indeed, selling). It does, however, give an indication in interest
But the thing is, it only gives an indictation of what people on the net, in a particularly small corner of the net, are interested in.
Your gut feeling isn't a fact, Kevin. It's a gut feeling. Based on very little data, which you yourself are disputing.

I've never said it's a fact, Allyson.
I should be able to offer an opinion on something, and not be a) called names for having an opinion b) be told your opinion is fact and c) that I should effectively shut up.
I'm not searching for a reason to negative on Drive. I'm search for a clue about the interest level.
Thanks for the promos, Monique. Alex stalling the car is great.
This is the first time Tim's done a show where there's an assload of publicity, and the full support of the network and studio, because they love it.
Is a fact.
You're coming at this solely from your experience with cult television from an internet standpoint. You're seeing things from the perspective of someone outside the states, who isn't soaking in the promotion.
Is also a fact.
From your post, what I gather is that you are worried that the American public is not interested in Drive because of lack of internet traffic/discussion.
It isn't my opinion that internet traffic/discussion of a show has little to nothing to do with whether the American public (which is enormous, you know) is interested in Drive. That's a fact, that bears out time and again.
Your worry is baseless. You can of course feel that way. But it's not rational, which should make you feel better.
You'll get your clue on interest level when the nielsen data comes in, with the rest of us.
That's a fact, that bears out time and again.
Not always.
I'm not going to go on about the issue, because it's gettin' tiresome for all involved. I feel differently to you on an issue, Allyson, and I'd appreciate it if you respect both that, and me.
Earlier today, Kevin said, "But I think we all know that online buzz isn't always a good indicater of offline interest," so honestly, I can't figure out what stance either of you are taking, never mind why you're taking it.
I'm tired of this thread turning into let's everyone walk on eggshells, while Kevin and Allyson get on each other's nerves, and I can't imagine ever speaking freely about the show in here, once/if I watch.

I agree. I thought that the point of this thread was to discuss Tim's work (and soaps and crafts, obviously). If we can only discuss from one point of view, where's the fun in that? Kerfuffle or kerfauxfle, I think it's getting kind of old.
Of course, I have a hard enough time keeping up with b.org, so if it's just me and Cindy, or just me, that's ok too.
