Simon: Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword. Zoe: I think he knows which end to hold.

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I still own a television and I still watch Fox. I'm going to tune in to TV's hit series, Drive because it looks good to me.

I thought I'd be jaded and skeptical but I just can't be.

Hope springs eternal.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

Saw my first promo last night. At the beginning I was kind of meh, but I was really intrigued by about half way through, even more so when I started seeing NF. I didn't like the pregnant character at first (what's her name?), but I loved her line when she was being booked.

In short, I think I would have been intrigued enough to give it a shot even without the Tim/Kristen/Nathan connection. With it, the show would get a shot from me if the promo showed just asphalt, although I would have serious concerns!

I couldn't remember if I needed to use spoiler font, so thought I would play it safe.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

I've been thinking about this for awhile. I have weird issues due to two people I love very much making this show, and then I get fiercely protective when anyone has anything remotely negative to say.

It's foolish, as both Tim and Kristen can certainly defend their work, and likely aren't broken by comments/criticism, and maybe welcome it.

I get that, it's reasonable.

I am not reasonable, and thus sit on my hands as much as possible so as not to go apoplectic on someone who says, "That promo did nothing for me" or, "The only reason I'd watch is because of Nathan, Tim, Kristen, the guy holding the boom...".

It feels like, if someone were to pop up in Lit and say, "I couldn't get past the first essay in Vampire People, it was boring, do the rest get better?"

I'm a big girl and can get that and welcome the criticism, but I imagine a handful Buffistae might get uppity about it, because they love me and wouldn't want to see my feelings hurt, and it's natural to get defensive about people you love.

So it's not like I'm saying you can't come in and say, "The episode didn't grab me because..."

A) I'm not thread boss B) It's a legit discussion on topic

But you know, I reserve the right to go mental on anyone who says that Tim or Kristen are talentless hacks who smell of poo. That's Stompy-worthy, I think.

Does this make sense? Just putting it out there. Again. I'm unsure if Monique gets that same feeling of defensiveness, but it's where I went with Juliebird's post.

My initial kneejerk reaction was to metaphorically punch her in the nose, which is wrong and stupid and I'm sorry that my head goes to the irrational mamabear place, first.

Okay, so, um, TV's hit Drive. Mondays at 8.

I remember being much more eloquent, once.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

It's difficult when your friends are involved. You did fine with Firefly criticism (probably Inside too, I don't remember though). You'll do fine with this too. Buffistas aren't prone to anything as simple as X is a hack anyway, so I think most commentary will be constructive.

I think all the buildup excitement, and waiting, and then not one but two, two of your favorite people, that can make anyone flip out like a mammal.

ETA: I should also say, while we don't love them in the same way we certainly respect and love them as artists and Buffistas, and will treat them in that way.

I know. I expect a storm of newbies.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But you know, I reserve the right to go mental on anyone who says that Tim or Kristen are talentless hacks who smell of poo. That's Stompy-worthy, I think.

I don't think that's stomp-worthy. Certainly Tim has shown amazing resiliance (and good humor) in the face of some tough criticism, and I expect Kristen can hold her own in a poo-flinging contest (should she deign to lower herself).

The question of what's a personal attack and what's a cultural critique gets blurred when the creators are about, certainly. But I expect people will be polite as they usually are around here.

And I expect you might have to grit your teeth and rebut wrong-headed people forcefully (and civilly?). Or go mental as your muse dictates.

I don't think Tim or Kristen would lack for defenders here. Though there are very few people anywhere who can match the blister power of a full-on Allysonian rant.

You know, we could experiment and cancel football.

Allyson, I don't know how anyone could expect your reaction to be any different than mama bear.

I wasn't surprised at all to your reaction to Juliebird's post. However, since I know Juliebird, I am pretty sure that her comment wasn't coming from a "oh, that sucks" place as much as a "objectively, that didn't grab me as much as I would have liked and maybe I am not the ads demo" kinda place.

Not that I want to put words in Juliebird's mouth, but I guess I just did. Her words may differ.

hip deep in pie

I totally understand where you're coming from Allyson, but I think Tim himself has said that he doesn't want people to not criticize a show just because he is here. ETA: Or, what Dana said.

I just want to know if I'll be about to see TV's hit show Drive in Canadia.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I don't think that's stomp-worthy.

stomp-worthy or Stompy-worthy? I think any personal attacks would be Stompy-worthy to the extent that any attack on a poster here would be.
