Most services here in the US you can. And I used to send sms text messages to a friend of mine in the UK. I'm not sure if they do the same thing in Australia.

Friends of mine were really trying to have their baby today. But she had some complications and they had to deliver her a month early. (everybody's fine) They will be so jealous!
