We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so very pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die.

Spike's Bitches 30: Going on Thirteen

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

What is even happening?

We drove directly to meet the in-laws to pick up the kids as soon as we got off our flight yesterday. Owen was in his grandfather's arms when I walked up to him. He looked at me suspiciously, frowned and then clung to Grandpa's neck. It took him a while to warm back up to me. Stake. Through. The. Heart.
Oh, Cashmere. I'm pretty sure in Two-Year-Old-ese, this is, "I love you so much that you must be punished for your own good, and this is the only means available to me." Poor Owen. Your story is putting me in mind of A.A. Milne's Disobedience, from When We Were Very Young.

James James
Morrison Morrison
Weatherby George Dupree
Took great
Care of his Mother,
Though he was only three.
James James
Said to his Mother,
"Mother," he said, said he;
"You must never go down to the end of the town, if you don't go down with me."
James James
Morrison's Mother
Put on a golden gown.
James James
Morrison's Mother
Drove to the end of the town.
James James
Morrison's Mother
Said to herself, said she:
"I can get right down to the end of the town and be back in time for tea."

"LOST or STOLEN or STRAYED!

King John said he was sorry,
So did the Queen and Prince.
King John
(Somebody told me)
Said to a man he knew:
If people go down to the end of the town, well, what can anyone do?"

(Now then, very softly)

It's a good thing Olivia didn't hold a grudge.
Hee.

...

d, are you friends with the mother, or just friendly neighbors, or plain old neighbors? Is the neighbor your landlord, or is she also renting?

Now tagless for your comfort.

Yeah. I let him have his moment. Plus, he had just woken up from a nap and hadn't eaten. I think it's actually good for his grandfather to know that he felt so safe with them. I did my best not to show hurty feelings and got a bit of time with Olivia before Owen realized he was coming back home with us.

d, I think it would depend very much on the kind of relationship you have with the family and what kind of kid the teenager is. As a parent, I'd probably want to know the information but I'd also REALLY like to hear it from the kid, rather than from a neighbor. The discussions that need to come up (BC, respect issues, etc.) *should* take place between the parent and child so I'd probably nudge the kid in that direction, if it's possible.

Anyone around? I could use a shoulder.

Hey sweeties. Another night of nightmares and anxiety dreams. This makes the fourth night in a row. It's 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday and I've only been asleep since 2, and yet I'm wide awake and shaky. Again.

Mostly lurking...

{{{Kristin}}} Oh, honey, I'm so sorry.

Because books.

Can you make some tea and put on some music? Or pop in a DVD that makes you laugh, and possibly doze off again?

I'm so sorry, babe. Disturbed sleep is awful, especially when it's bad dreams.

Thanks. I got some water (I think part of my headache right now is the dreams, but most of it is dehydration) and am using the internets to calm myself down a little before trying to go back to sleep.

Because books.

Try something like a game -- one of those that takes a lot of concentration or you're out. iWon used to have good ones. It's a great distraction.
