Closing wasn't too bad for us, but I had panicked over it so much that I had planned and double-planned for everything.
I used realliving.com and realtor.com for listings. Realtor.com is only updated once a week and sometimes has listings that don't exist for a long time after they're gone but they allow you to save your interest rate and down payment information so that you get a good idea (add $200-$300 a month for taxes, PMI and homeowner's insurance) of what your payment will be. Realliving.com is updated whenever the MLS is updated. Together they give you a decent idea of what's out there and whether or not you can afford it.
I went to that zillow one and checked on the price of a house 3 doors down from my mom that's currently for sale. Could somebody loan me $513,000? Ta ever so.
Isn't zillow teh shiznit? I wish they'd had it out when we were looking. As it is, it's a good way to get a sense of what's going on in your neighborhood.
If you own a PC and can afford it, I highly recommend using Dragon Naturally Speaking.
thanks. if this keeps up for much longer, I might take a look at that.
Just took the brace off, because I realized that I can't eat while wearing it -- my wrist doesn't bend enough to get the fork to my mouth without spilling everything.

....
Mine is the 2nd most expensive in SF w/r/t home values. Oy.
Okay, Zillow says we paid 2k more than we ought for this house, and that one not a block away went for 20k less. I might not ought to have looked, though it looks like an awesome resource for homebuyers.
Hil, did your doctor give you exercises to improve things?

Nope. I think tendonitis is more of a "don't move" thing than an exercise thing. The brace I'm supposed to be wearing pretty much stops my wrist from bending, so that the tendons can rest while the inflamation goes down.
Deena, Zillow was grossly underpricing things in my neighborhood and several surrounding ones, so I wouldn't take it too seriously.
Anne, I'm not too worried. According to the HUD inspector, we paid 4k less than it was worth. I'm pretty impressed with Zillow, though. At least it's close.
I had carpal tunnel and the doctor gave me some simple exercises, but I had to wear the braces too. I need to dig them out again.
Are you going to be at the F2F, Deena? I can't remember, and I'm too lazy to check further back up the thread to check.
