If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Oh my jesus, how's this for horrifying -

From this morning's news: Back in April, a van carrying five college students was in a deadly accident near here. Three I think were killed, at least one survived. Now, six weeks later, it turns out that two of the girls were misidentified. This came to light because one of the survivors, whose family has been keeping a vigil by her hospital bed all this time, has just slowly been able to speak intelligibly - and it gradually became apparent to her family that this was not, in fact, their daughter. So their daughter was in fact buried six weeks ago by another family, while the family of the living girl has believed for all that time that their daughter was dead.

I can't even imagine how horrifically that poor girl in the hospital must be if it's only now that the family was able to determine she wasn't who they thought she was. And I can't even imagine what it must be like for that poor family.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Oh, that's so sad-making indeed.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

So their daughter was in fact buried six weeks ago by another family, while the family of the living girl has believed for all that time that their daughter was dead.

That's...wow.

hip deep in pie

Brenda, that's so horrible and tragic.

I need to declare: John Hodgman on The Daily Show last night was comic genius! Eustace Dismal! Morlocks and Citizens! The Dismal Paradox! plus Kid Dy-no-Mite.

Hodgman has quickly become my new favourite on TDS.

Yeah, it's hard to even process. What a nightmarish thing.

Must remember to record TDS today.

Because books.

My reaction is pretty much bon's -- wow. What strikes me is that the girls must (have) be(en) nearly unrecognizable due to injury for that to happen.

I just can't imagine discovering that your daughter has been dead for weeks.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, that story is horrifying.

Yeah, I think that must be the case. They did look a fair bit alike before, which I assume is where the whole fucked up mess started. But for this to go on for so long...wow.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Also, sort of a surprise. If there were any question, wouldn't they have hauled out the genetic testing to be sure? I wonder what (or who) made them so positive as to the live girl's identity that they didn't question it at all.

It's weird, hearing news reports like these, where all you get is the capsule, and the implications can roll around in your head for days. A couple days ago, my local public radio mentioned a car accident (I guess this was in the wee hours after Memorial Day) where a minivan rolled on the Lowell Connector, and the two adults in front were thrown from the car and killed, and the news guy says, unaffectedly, "bystanders were able to pull the two children from the back seat before the car burst into flames."

WTF! Trauma!
