Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Timelies all!
Owie. I must have pushed off the side of the pool wrong while doing laps today because my knee hurts like whoa. Where's that Tylenol?
I seem to have a nap to spare, Burrell. It's all yours.
If I took a nap from either ita or Burrell, I'm sorry. Stupid hormones are wiping me out. Does explain my hostility of late, though.
I really really really don't want to dismantle my kitchen tomorrow. Nor do I want to do the cat dance. Stupid fucking roaches and stupid fucking tenants that entice them (never had roaches before this year. In conjunction with a couple new tenants. I am suspicious.)
ION, why do I always have to watch the Nat'l Geo Arlington Cemetary doc? Never fails to make me cry and really wonder about what personality quirks the honor guards have. Don't get me wrong, I understand how the precision is a form of honor, but that these guys like it so freaking much is unnerving. Same sentiments about the Lenin's Tomb guard. When I went through the tomb, as we exited the little pathway outside the tomb, a little girl ahead of me just HURLED all over the boots of one of the guards. He didn't even look down. I waited 10 minutes. He didn't move. With vomit all over his shoes. I was freaked out (pickled Lenin put me well on the way, but that just pushed it.)
American Idol (I can't believe I just outed myself like this...): OMG WHEE!!!
Who?
Radiation and the Popular Imagination
In the past century, few topics have gripped the public's interest as tenaciously as has radiation. Our perceptions of it have shaped policy in arenas as diverse as medical care, energy, and international relations. The relationship has been a stormy one, though, as we've alternately adored radiation or despised it, depending on the morning's headlines.
Fortunately, radiation's long-standing high profile in the media provides us with a century's worth of images to chronicle the history of this roller coaster romance
Wow. Radiation used as a beauty treatment. Radium drinks that glowed. Radioactive suppositories.
Radium water means radiant health. AGUA RADIUM rejuvenates!
Radioactive hot springs were the spas of the day. Seats in radon-laden mine shafts were rented by the ill and aged.
One of several brands of radioactive toothpaste.
A very short Shockwave animation of an anime character singing a nonsense song. It keeps on repeating. It it supposedly one of the most ear-wormy things ever recorded.
I used to have an irradiated dime from the Atomic Energy museum in Oak Ridge, TN. My older sisters and I tried to break the little cases to get the dime out.
I also used to eat rocks at that stage of my life.

Back when you aspired to be an Emperor penguin.
That was radioactive.
