Typo Boy -- Any chance she could go through BWI instead? There's an Amtrak stop right there. (Well, not right there, but there's a shuttle to the actual airport.)

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Tom, can you recruit/pay a housitter? Cause that might work.
My parents have negotiated getting to/from BWI via mass transit. It isn't well advertised, I don't think. However, if you get it all sorted out before, it can be pretty doable. The redcaps are kind of hyperhelpful, in my experience, though. Basically, whatever you do, I'd advise arranging things beforehand.
I can attest to the fact that Burrell's kids are FREAKING ADORABLE.
So Mister Kitty news: he's good to go! Still no clue as to what caused the $1500 at-death's-door illness (seriously, the vet told me it was touch and go at a couple points. I give him points for not mentioning this to me when MK was barely able to stand, but under treatment.) But the really odd thing...his insulin dose is now 2 units, once a day. Down from 5 units, twice a day. He is responding better than ever to the insulin. I've heard that trauma/illness can do system resets, but... it's just WEIRD. I think we may go up a little as he gains weight back, but that's fine. We'll go back for a new curve in a couple months. I still have another bag of fluids I haven't popped, so that's good, in case he starts having issues in the near future.
So no clear explanations, but it looks like we dodged a bullet. I cried in relief at the vets. I love their techs and front desk people. They prodded me to laughter (what I needed, to regain my dignity) with adorkable tales of MK with them. I need to make them cookies.
Oh sarameg, that's such good news. Yay Mister Kitty!
Strega - maybe. I'm now running into another problem. I've got a perfect flight for her to NY - a non-stop in her price range. But because it is a non-stop it only shows when her return trip is a non-stop. As soon as I book her return trip from BWI or Richmond or even Reagan National, the flight to NY disappears because apparently if Orbitz can't honor a request for a non-stop return it won't honor one for a non-stop going. Any Orbitz experts?
Thanks, Jilli. He's currently trying to make a lap for himself while I sit on the balance ball. Aand now he's gone, with a huff.
I'm, of course, a little frustrated we don't know what started this, but at least we know what can head this off and I know what to watch for. I'm still a little shaken, given he's 13ish. I've had to face things and decisions on my own that I'd rather pretend don't exist (btdt with family pets, but denial is a pleasant place! And these are my kitties alone, I'm the one left to make calls.)
You know, I hope I don't post about stuff like this for a long, long time. Hi Denial!
I've never successfully booked an open-jaw ticket online, Gar -- you'd probably be better off calling the airline. (Or Orbitz's customer service line, if they have one.)
Typo, you can always make note of the different flight numbers and call the airlines directly. When I did a 2 destination roundtrip, that was how I did it.
That is excellent Mister Kitty news, sara!
Mister Kitty news: he's good to go!That is such wonderful news, sara! Glad he gave the techs fun stories to cheer you up as well.
Thanks, Jesse & Cass!
OK, one funny to come from all this. He's lost a fair bit of weight, and that combined with inflating him with fluids under the skin means that when he curls up, his loose skin puddles around him. It's a true cat puddle!
