Don't you just love this party? Everything's so fancy, and there's some kind of hot cheese over there.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

A little? Is this possible?

She didn't even feel it. It felt weird through my glove--knuckle to nose, or something. We stopped sparring, and she was leaking tears--"I'm not crying because it hurts," she said, which made me think something was maybe kinda wrong. That and that her nose looked slightly more over to the left than it had been ten minutes ago. She didn't think anything of it until I made her look in the mirror. It didn't bleed until we went to the locker room.

Oops.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Huh.

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

Eek.

SLIGHTLY.

Like, there was debate at the centre over whether it was broken or not. The dentist and the boxers said yes, and the guy who'd most recently broken his nose said it didn't really matter since they couldn't fix anything until the swelling went down.

She's going to hospital anyway, but didn't need me, since she was meeting her father there.

Did I mention the oops part? It was so light a tap. Just at the right angle, with my knuckle poking at the right place.

I bought new boxing gloves as soon as she was gone.

Swouncing

Are you surprised that I skipped? And for a specific reason, so I'm going to ignore all ongoing conversations? Because I'm, well, not surprised.

However, do I remember correctly, that exactly a year ago, Burrell's son, Isaac, was born? If I do, then happy first birthday, and lots of wishes for wonderful many more, for not just the birthday-boy, but also his mommy, daddy and big sister!

Happy Birthday, Isaac!

And Hellooooooo, Nilly!

Can you see a particle of difference between that and a work of declared fanfiction? I can’t.

I will steal a notion from Ellis, because it is apt and concise: Brooks got paid. Thus, not fanfic. Simple. Next?

Putting that label on a work of fiction says nothing about its quality, its creativity, or the intent of the writer who created it.

Duh. No genre label does that. So?

Both of the Haydens say some very intelligent, interesting things. They also say other things. This is one of the other things. OMG, legal merits are not identical to artistic merits?! I cannot wait for further devastating rhetoric to reveal that many published works are, despite their originality, not all that good.

It is 4 AM, and I have no patience.

ita, I am sorry you broke someone's nose, for the sake of the nose's owner and because I'm sure you wish you hadn't. But it is a little bit cool, really. In the abstract.

What is even happening?

Hi, Nillly.

That seems incredible to me. It always does, but Isaac is much closer to newborn, in my brain, maybe because I'm not on the board much when Burrell is.

Can you see a particle of difference between that and a work of declared fanfiction? I can’t.

Yep.

I have docked again at the quay of consciousness. I hope today goes better than yesterday did. Flexeril is God, or at least an archangel of pain-relief.
