Yeah, we suck. Suck more than every other country? Debatable. But we do suck hard. I was told that there are countries that officially sanction murdering homosexuals (Egypt was cited), but I haven't done the fact checking.

I can't argue with that analysis. Iraq, for example. Closer to home, there was recently an ugly incident -- with poor police response -- in St. Maarten.
