Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

OK, if you saw this headline (front page of MSNBC), what would you think?

Iran to 'join the club of counties' with nukes, leader says

Would you think that Iran's leader said that they're gonna get nuclear weapons? But that's not what he said.

If you click on the link, you get a more accurate headline: Iran says will soon join nuke technology 'club'

See, what he meant was that Iran has started processing uranium, supposedly for nuclear power (they'd really have to ramp production way up to get nuclear bomb material anytime soon).

So was that first headline a mistake, or intentionally misleading?

Coding and Sleeping

I'm sure it is intentionally misleading to make the story sound more dramatic.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

This all reminds me that I need to pick up some chopped liver and matzo at Canter's for Passover tomorrow.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Oh, the other day I was in the store and saw a box that I thought said Tim-Tam. As I was lunging for what promised to be yummy chocolate things, I got a good look at the label - Tam-Tam brand matzohs. sigh.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

They served us monkfish liver when Perkins and I last did omakase. Christ, that was horrible. So my omakase no-no list is now chicken eggs, tentacled beasts of the sea, and any liver. Blecch.

A huge step forward for female gamers?

GirlsofCS is an online gaming community and nude pinup gallery. We are out to empower female gamers by eliminating the negative online stereotypes towards them. Online gaming has typically been dominated by men, but that is changing. By keeping our community mature, we hope to encourage more female gamers to enjoy their games with us.

I didn't think it was that bad, but yeah, there is too much other really good stuff to bother with the "I guess it's not that bad" stuff. I like it better than the urchin though.

eta: and now I want to go have omakase at the Hump. Sad.

"The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be."

tentacled beasts of the sea

Now *that's* a menu item.
