Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Wow. I love how her source for her claim that only drawn characters can be copyrighted is an article that actually just says that it's easier to protect copyright on graphic characters than on literary ones. Like, she went to the trouble of finding an actual legal article, but it's one that doesn't at all say what she says it does.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

You think you've read bad fantasy writing?

Oh, no, you haven't.

Gosh.

What does a gibbous moon smell like? The Lovecraft associations make me think "fishy," which doesn't help at all.

I like how he keeps alternating between running one metaphor into the ground and listing completely disparate ones. For each new body part. Including her pubes.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

So, in thinking about genre, have any of you read Chabon's Maps and Legends? Thoughts?

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

PC, that is awesome. In a pole-axing way. So long as it isn't the match that sets the fanfic house on fire, I'm good. (And, frankly, since the HP novels are all out now, and HP fanfic didn't make anything go boom in a big way, I'm much less nervous about this than I once was.)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

And on top of the weird metaphor fest, "Spikenard"? The protagonist's name is "Spikenard"? Really?
