Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

I'm a fucking amazing catch!--Fiona Gallagher, Shameless(US)

I understand this...Dr. Cross left me hanging some time ago, so I got some spleen to work out. Patterson, bring it, bitch. And stop practicing your Mysterious Face...is annoying.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

I was surprised the first time I saw a TV ad for an Iris Johansen thriller. I remember buying her first book, a Loveswept romance, when it was first published back in 1980 (it was one of the six books in the initial Loveswept launch, along with a Sandra Brown book that I later loaned to a classmate and never got back--that one's probably worth some bucks by now).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I think I'll have to pick the Crusie/dude book up.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Book Deals:

Browsing through Amazon and various stores recently I've noticed a few deals worth passing along to Buffistas.

Taschen Press is celebrating its 25th anniversary with super cheap prices on some gorgeous fine art books. I picked up this hardcover edition on Edward Hopper for just $10 new at Virgin Megastore.

One of my all-time favorite books, The Circus of Dr. Lao by Charles Finney has been remaindered and you can pick it up for less than $2. It is one of the greatest, and funniest of American fantasies.

Another great American fantasy, Land of Laughs by Jonathan Carroll has also been remaindered. It's less with the funny and more with the dark and haunting, but it is completely transporting. Tep liked it too.

Lastly, The Passion of New Eve by Angela Carter. It's not remaindered, but the original Virago edition is very scarce, collectable and expensive. So here it is in a cheaper edition. Recommended for people who like dark fantastic slightly dystopian visions of America, Hollywood Gothic and gender bending.

!

...Oh. $2 for a used copy from their "marketplace sellers." Or was it $2 at Amazon and I missed it? That would be tragic.

Didja nae click da link? All is explained behind the link.

(What the link explains: not a tragedy.)

But it does seem to have been remaindered so if you do have a bookstore that specializes in remaindered books (and don't we all), you should be able to find it on that particular Failed-Publishing-Venture table.

It's still a great book! Also, this edition has cool illustrations.

I did click the link, which is why I was confused. And am even more so, now. It's $9.97. Or it is for me. ...Is this one of those things where they're offering people different prices? That would explain the mutual bewilderment.

It's still a great book!
Oh, I know & agree. I read it a couple of times, but I don't own a copy and should. I think it's on my wish list, which is why I'm wondering if Amazon is trying to mess with me. Grr.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Dang, once again not on the list. I KNEW it would affect my chances if I didn't actually, you know, finish anything this year!
