Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I recently finished T. Kingfisher's House With Good Bones - it got kind of scary at some points, but not horrifying (in that I could read it in the evening and be able to sleep afterwards). I didn't love it, but liked it. Want more gnoles and continue the story of the Paladins of the Saint of Steel.
Toddson, according to her Twitter feed the next book in the Paladins series should be out later in the year. Nothing so specific as a publication date, however. link
I finally got around to reading The Family Plot by Cherie Priest, and reading it while taking my nightly bath was a foolish choice. Why did I forget Cherie is an excellent horror author? How did I forget that?
The book is great, but there are some sections that are creepy as hell.
I really liked The House With Good Bones, but I wanted the main character to acknowledge that it was a haunting sooner.
I just got it from the library!

Sweet! I just recently finished Thornhedge and I didn't like it quite as much as I expected to. Can't pinpoint why either - I like the premise and the characters but the actual story I'm just not that into, I guess. So I was already wishfully hoping for more Paladins. I did like House with Good Bones rather a lot.
I've been reading The Doctrine of Labyrinths series which I guess Katharine Addison wrote under a different name and has been republished or something. It was a little slow to really grab me but now I'm pretty much obsessed with it (on the fourth book and I don't think there are any more, woes)
Although what I really want is the next Swordheart. Someday, I hope.
The Paladin books are the only Kingfisher books I’ve had trouble getting into. I think I’ll try the first one again but in audio form this time.
The Doctrine of Labyrinths
Melusine, which I think is the first book in the series, is on sale for Kindle right now ($1.99). [link]
