Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.

There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."

Ah, gotcha. Definitely more than 5402 books--and I figure the top shared books on the main page is not right, but then maybe it's more right on the zeitgeist page. (EDIT: Mm, but you're right--the zeitgeist page has unweighted and weighted updated differently!) (EDIT2: Heh. All my other groups, the top unweighted books are 3/4th Harry Potter!!)

I had a few no one else had--I think they were almost all travel books, oddly enough--nothing exciting, just like "Lonely Planet Dublin". Bizarre.

Art Crawl!!!

Maybe people haven't gotten around to entering those. At this point, not knowing whether I'm going to pay for a membership or not, I'm just adding a selection.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I figure that Deb and Hec will figure highly in our zeitgeist, and then the rest of the books will be telling. Or predictable (high in Buffy-related works and graphic novels with Batman in them, for instance, or anything by Neil Gaiman).

I'm looking over my tags to see if I'm comfortable with what I've done so far. I think it's both useful and representative as it stands, but a little surprising.

non-fiction (98), fiction (76), fantasy (25), comics (23), children's (22), how-to (15), martial arts (15), science fiction (13), computers (12), weapons (9)

That's more children's books than I was expecting. Otherwise it's pretty much ita.

You do understand that I must go look now and see what you tagged "I am lame," right?

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Understood.

For the record, that's my tag for really geeky or just plain bad media tie-ins.

Like, err, the three Dark Angel novels listed there.

Heh. Point.

Okay, now all my books are entered. Graphic novels and that one dictionary that's just not near any of the other books. And while I was here I scanned the cover of the Wolverine graphic novel that wasn't in by my ISBN (WTF?). Backing away from the LibraryThing for the night.

information libertarian

ita, if the forums seem too dense, I'd just email the LT guy directly. He seems insanely responsive. I've been meaning to do it myself...

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

ita, it drives me batshit too. I did ask on one of the forums, and other than someone saying their group was stalled at some (much higher) number too, got nothin. Emailing seems like the way to go.

So far, tagging has started with "what I've not read" which is actually a boon. Makes me want to read those books!

Me too! If only to keep that tag from getting embarrassingly large on the tag cloud.

My tags:

non-fiction (141), sci fi (70), politics (62), romance (39), fantasy (37), latin america (24), food (23), history (23), unread (22), humor (20), cookbook (16), economics (14), mystery (13), canadian (13), race (13), religion (12), mexico (10), drama (9), feminism (8), berg (8), reference (8), vietnam (8), writing (8), philosophy (7), bujold (6), slashy (6), flewelling (6), hobb (6), kids (5), cooper (5), dark is rising (5), block (4), africa (4), gibson (4), china (4), spanish (4), music (4), silverstein (4), chicago (4), austen (4), poetry (4), montreal (3), wiesel (3), o'brien (3), flashman (3), cyberpunk (3), wilkie collins (3), crusie (2), french (2), gaiman (2), buffistas (2), achebe (2), brust (2), smay (2), allende (2), dogs (2), connie willis (2), jimmy carter (2), remnick (2), mencken (2), shakespeare (1), brontes (1), art (1), sci-fi (1), ivins (1), atheism (1), dawkins (1), willis (1), kleypas (1), huffington (1), dorothy parker (1), jubilee (1), film (1), graphic (1), atwood (1), orwell (1)

Karma is a cat, sleeping in my lap cuz it loves me. ~TS

ita, how did you enter your comics? I couldn't find any ISBN numbers on mine, so I'm guessing you went by titles and issues?

Hmm. I guess I could just try it and see what happens....
